MY HOME OFFICE + STUDIO ESSENTIALS

A few months ago, I made the leap to work for myself full-time! Although my home office and home studio are not 100% complete yet, I thought I’d share some of the things in my office I just cannot operate without! My home office inspo if you will!

A Large Desk/Workspace & Floor Lamp

I wish I could link this for you but this was a custom piece my uncle and I built! Using a tabletop from the ‘As-Is’ section at Ikea, and painted black pipe (with a few other fixings) this table is customized for me! It’s taller than your average desk which has been integral to keeping up with a good posture now that I work from home solely and it’s large enough to have my laptop and gear out when I’m working. I found in the past, too many of my desks were just way too small surface-wise and even height-wise so I’d always be hunched over. If you’re picky about your workspace like me, consider building your own or having a custom desk built to meet your unique needs!

This Modern Floor Lamp was exactly what I was looking for to add a little light and interest to my industrial-inspired workplace! When I moved in, I knew I was going to have to embrace the exposed ductwork in my home office so an industrial vibe was the way to go! This lamp is great for the early mornings when I start working and transitions wonderfully into the wee evenings if I’m pulling a later night and haven’t moved to another area of my home! It’s also honestly been doubling as a light for my backdrops some days depending on what I’m working on!

STUDIO NEEDS (EXCLUDING TECH)

With the number of fabric backdrops I have and the small amount of storage space I have in my apartment to effectively keep them flat, this handheld steamer has become my best friend! It’s fantastic for not only steaming out wrinkles in backdrops but steaming clothing and other products before a shoot!

Backdrops

I’m one of those people that can make a back-drop out of anything - blankets, scarves, maxi dresses, you name it! I do, however, have a few larger backdrops I ordered online that are (for the most part) used for their intended use! My favourites are this Black Cloth Backdrop (discontinued but I’ll test out another one and update this post!) and this Canvas Drop Cloth that I use as a backdrop! I’ll be honest, the canvas one does have a bit of a chemical smell at first so I had to air it out but now, I love it! It’s got a bit of a grey canvas colour to it and comes in different sizes depending on your space. I’ve yet to find a white backdrop I love (like yes, love no!) so if you have any suggestions my friends, let me know!

DECOR

Removable Wallpaper

Don’t knock it until you try it! I love to move around and rent different apartments so any permanent changes to my living space are not feasible. I’ve come to love removable wallpaper because it allows me to add an accent wall and really add to a space without damaging it! To go with the industrial vibe of my studio, I ordered this Faux Red Brick wallpaper and fell IN LOVE! It’s easy to apply alone (in my opinion as long as you’re using every limb at once to do so haha) and it looks great! It makes a cool backdrop for photos or a fun background for video calls.

Stickers & Cards

I know what you might be thinking - stickers Em? Do you consider that decor? When they are badass stickers from Naughty Florals, I certainly do! I have these babies on frames in my office, my laptop and they’ve even made their way to my fridge! With quotes such as “Not Your Average Badass” and “Get Shit Done”, these stickers and cards make a fantastic addition to a home office, plus they make you giggle. Who doesn’t need a good laugh these days?
