MY WINTER SKINCARE LINE-UP

Growing up I had always thought I had oily skin because of the acne I was getting. I would use products that would dry my skin and aggravate my rosacea but at the time, I wasn’t open to exploring too many other skincare options on my part-time job budget. Fast forward 10 years later, skincare is one thing I take very seriously and alternate my products through the seasons to address my skincare needs. I also listen more than I talk - when my makeup artist told me my skin was as dry as the desert, I listened. What I thought was acne from oily skin was actually acne from a build-up of dry skin cells coupled with blockage from over-moisturizing! If you’re like me and have dry skin that can be prone to rosacea or acne outbreaks if not taken care of, I may have some winter recommendations for you! Of course, I am not a skincare expert but after a full two years of really testing different products, this is what works best for me in the colder months!

Cerave Hydrating Facial Cleaner bottle on a beach background

I never really had a solid cleanser growing up. A lot of the products I was using were just products I had seen friends use and they only caught my eye because of the bright colours and ‘exploding beads’ in them. We’ve all seen this brand on TikTok and I’ll be honest, this cleanser lives up to the praise! I use this CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser every morning and evening and it’s great for removing make-up and leaving my skin feeling refreshed!

L'Occitane en Provence, Reine Blanche Illuminating Scrub on a textured background.

I briefly touched on it earlier but one thing I was never really addressing with my skin was the build-up of dry skin cells! That could be because I tried one or two aggressive exfoliants that resulted in some major issues or it could just be because I was focusing my efforts on other areas of my beauty routine! I now have a light exfoliant that I am in love with! The Reine Blanche Illuminating Scrub is something I use in the morning twice a week to refresh my skin and get rid of the impurities! It’s light and the results are instant!

I’ve always wanted to try The Ordinary products and it wasn’t until I stumbled across the section at Sephora that I decided to give a few products a go! The first item on my winter skincare AM list: Niacinamide! A miracle for clearing up my acne - I’m personally at a place now where I can use it every morning without any issues when used in combination with my other products but start slow and see how your skin reacts!

The Ordinary Caffeine 5% + ECGC Depuffing Eye Serum on a white textured background

My puffy morning eye bags are no match for The Ordinary Caffeine 5% + ECGC Depuffing Eye Serum! I use this lovely product every morning and then follow with my jade roller and my eye bags are gone within minutes! (Should be paired with a goodnight’s rest my friends ;))

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo (+) Global Action Acne Face Treatment on a textured background

I really got the moisture and reduction in dry skin build-up figured out but it wasn’t until I introduced these next two products that my red skin and spotted acne around my upper lip and cheeks went away! This global acne treatment is available at Shoppers or Amazon and I use it right before my final serum and moisturizer! It’s great because it’s not a spot treatment and can be used to treat and prevent acne over your whole face!

NEW Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate

I actually received this product initially as a gifted PR product but that being said, it’s a game-changer and I’ve already repurchased it! I’ll admit, it is a bit of a splurge but this product comes in a variety of sizes so you can start off trying it with the 15ml size and I personally noticed a difference within the first week! This was the product that really targeted that texture and redness from my dry skin.

A friend of mine was posting a lot about the Jet Lag Mask so I decided to give it a go as my evening skincare product (I would just use my cleanser and then this as a one-stop shop) and it’s fabulous! The texture, the feeling on my skin, the nourishment without over-moisturizing - it’s a tall glass of water for your skin! Some days I just use this with my acne treatment as my morning routine too! It can be used as a mask if you want, I just personally like to sleep with it on!

Most of the time in the A.M, I finish my skincare routine with the Hydraphase HA Rich Face Cream by La Roche Posay - I find it’s a great product to lock in that moisture for the day! I’ve purchased it from Shoppers & Amazon and it’s been the same price both places around the $40 mark and it makes a great base before your makeup! I might opt for something lighter in the summer but for the winter, this is fantastic!
